Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Water
  2.  Oil
  3.  Pool

Materials

1. Funnel x2
2. Container
3. Filter Paper
4. Dirty Water
5. Plastic Cups
6. Sand
7. Pebbles
8. Container

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle..... in to 1/4

Step 2

Put the top half upside down ....... inside the other half of the bottle

STEP 3

Add layers of .... sand then pebbles

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water ....... and pour it into the bottle

STEP 5

Pour dirty water into ...... upside down half of the bottle

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.
Drops per minute:  went very fast      went fast            medium          med/slow          slower
Water colour:         brown                    brown               light/dark brown     light/med brown CLEAR
Conclusion: We cut a bottle in half, turned the to half upside down and put sand , then pebbles. After that we added dirty water, the water was supposed to turn clear but instead it still was dirty brown water. It took five minutes to at least turn lighter then it was at the start. We kept on putting the water back into the cup and then pouring it back into the bottle again and it worked well.
